| Demographics, 2000 Census: From 1990 to
2000, population in Nottingham grew by 25.9 percent, adding
762 residents for a total of 3,701. The median age is 38.2,
with 27.8 percent of the population under the age of 18 and
7.2 percent age 65 and older. The total number of households
is 1,331, with an average size of 2.8 persons. Of those,
1,049 are family households, with an average size of 3.1
persons. As of April 1, 2000, there were 1,592 total housing
units. |

square mile of land area. Nottingham contains 46.5 square
miles of land area and 1.9 square miles of inland water
area. |

| Origin: Nottingham was named in honor of
Daniel Finch, second Earl of Nottingham. The Earl was a
close friend of Samuel Shute and Joseph Dudley, Governors of
Massachusetts when New Hampshire was under that province's
jurisdiction. Among the grantees was Peregrine White,
descendant of Peregrine White of the Mayflower, the first
child of English parentage born in New England. |
